Most people experience some challenges in life at some point or the other. Despite society becoming more accepting of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTQI) community, sadly many who don’t conform to heteronormativity still experience direct and indirect discrimination today. There has been a wide range of research into the mental health of LGBTIQI people. You can read more on the King’s College London website.
Coaching and NLP can help you Maximise Your Life!
Coaching and Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) can benefit anyone. Within Coaching and NLP no techniques or approaches are specifically relevant to one particular group of people, however it can benefit those who are either struggling with their identity, sexual orientation and past negative experiences.
What the LGBTQI+ community may experience
Research has show that those who identify as LGBTQI+ are more likely to have lower self-esteem, depression, anxiety, eating problems, misuse drugs and alcohol, self-harm and much more. It is important to understand that identifying as LGBTQI+ does not cause these problems, however issues such as those below can all impact on your health and wellbeing:
– homophobia, biphobia and transphobia – stigma and discrimination – difficult experiences of coming out – social isolation, exclusion and rejection.
Homophobia, biphobia and transphobia is any negative attitudes, assumptions and feelings towards someone who identifies as LGBTQI+. This can be from close friends and family, strangers, organisations or wider society. Sadly, this can be from other people who are within the LGBTQI+ community.
Stigma and discrimination can occur when you are being judged or treated unfairly because of who you are or who you love.
Today, many people who identify as LGBTQI have to go through ‘coming out’ to friends, family, colleagues and society. For some this is a very positive experience with a lot of love and support from others, however for many ‘coming out’ is fraught with all kinds of emotions such as anxiety and fear. For others they feel that they are never able to live as their true selves for fear of rejections, exclusion and isolation from both those close to them as well as society in general.
How I can help you Maximise Your Life
Whilst we can advocate for fair and equal treatment in organisations and society more generally, we cannot impact on how others think, behave or treat us. However, it is within your power to change the way you react and respond to homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and discrimination. Whether you are out to friends and family, or wrestling with feelings around your identity or sexual orientation, Coaching, NLP and time techniques can help you:
-gain confidence in your life, relationships and career – gain a new perspective on your situation and/or life – process your feelings about your identify and/or sexual orientation – remove past negative emotions – deal with anxiety – remove any limiting beliefs – sort through any relationship issues you and your partner may be experiencing.
Together we can work on what you would like to achieve in life, be that your personal life, relationship, career or business. I will help you to set clear goals and feel confident that you can achieve them by gaining a new perspective on your situation and life. We can work through any negative emotions, anxiety or limiting beliefs that may be holding you back. If you are in a relationship and experiencing difficulties I can help you understand each other better so that you can live your best lives together.
What I bring to our sessions
I identify as a lesbian and didn’t come out until my 30’s and have experienced what most of you may have gone through or are currently going through. Thankfully, my experience of ‘coming out’ was largely positive and I feel like I can live as my true self without any fear of rejection or discrimination. For many others this isn’t the case and this is why I am offering my help as a coach and NLP practitioner to help you through this time in your life.
Each year, during the month of Pride (June) I am offering one free coaching session when you make a donation to the LGBT Foundation through my Just Giving page. Connect me here to find out more about this.
When you are ready to take control back of your life and live with a positive and confident mindset about your identity and/or sexual orientation get in touch and together we can Maximise Your Life!
