NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming is best described as the connection between our neurological processes, the language we use and the programmes or behaviours that develop as a result of past experiences, thoughts and emotions. NLP is short for neuro-linguistic programming. Neuro refers to how you think, feel and interpret your experiences using your five senses; linguistic is how you communicate through language – the words you hear and say and the meaning you give them; and, programming is your feelings or emotions and behaviour. It guides you through learning from your own experiences of success and failure – and which thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are useful, and which are getting in your way.
Think of your mind as a computer or mobile phone – you need different programmes or apps to allow you to do different things such as checking your email, doing your banking, checking social media and so on. In life, you have many different programmes or strategies to get things done – how you start your day, how you relate to different people, how you get yourself to sleep at night, how you process things that happen to you. Some of these programmes or strategies can be helpful and some of them may be holding you back.
